Why the 35th anniversary matters

For more than three decades, Ukraine's Independence has stood for freedom, democracy and national identity. Today, as the country continues to defend those values, the anniversary carries even greater weight — for Ukraine, and for Europe.

On 22 August 2026 we mark this milestone together in Luxembourg: the Ukrainian community, friends of Ukraine, partners and neighbours. Not as spectators, but as people who choose to show up.

Independence is not just a memory. It is an action.

Key activity

Independence Auto Rally

A column of cars carrying Ukrainian flags moves through Luxembourg — calm, organised and impossible to miss. It is the simplest way to make Ukraine visible on the day, and one of the most powerful.

Everyone is welcome: long-time residents, newly arrived families, friends of Ukraine. One car, one flag, one shared message.

  • Registration takes about two minutes
  • A donation of at least €20 per vehicle confirms your place
  • Registered drivers will receive the meeting point, approved route, schedule and safety instructions by email before the event
  • The Auto Rally will take place from 14:00 to 15:00

From celebration to support

Five Starlink units. One connection that holds.

On the front line, communication is not a convenience. It is the difference between a unit that can call for help and one that cannot.

When the network goes down — and it does, constantly — a Starlink terminal is often the only link left between a position and the people who can reach it. It carries the order to move. The request for evacuation. The message home that says: I'm still here.

This campaign raises €2,000 for five Starlink units for Ukrainian defenders. That is the whole goal. Small, specific and entirely achievable if enough of us take part.

We will announce the final fundraising results on our website and social media at the beginning of September.

  • €20Registers one car in the rally
  • €100A meaningful share of one unit
  • €400One complete Starlink unit

Who is behind this

LUkraine asbl

LUkraine asbl is the association of the Ukrainian community in Luxembourg. Since 2022 we have supported newly arrived families, organised humanitarian aid, represented Ukraine at public events and built bridges between Ukrainians and Luxembourgish society.

We work in the open: named projects, stated goals, published results. That is how a community organisation earns the right to ask for support — and it is how we intend to keep it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can take part in the celebration?
Everyone. You do not need to be Ukrainian, and you do not need to have been involved with LUkraine before. The celebration is free, open and family-friendly.
Do I have to register to attend?
No — registration is only required if you want to drive in the Independence Auto Rally, because we need to organise the column. The rest of the celebration is open to all without registration.
Why is a €20 donation required for the rally?
Each registered vehicle contributes at least €20 to the Starlink fundraiser. It keeps the rally connected to the purpose of the day and makes the €2,000 goal achievable through shared participation rather than a few large gifts.
How will the money be used?
The full €2,000 goes towards five Starlink communication units and their subscriptions for Ukrainian defenders. After the campaign we publish a report showing exactly what was raised and what it delivered.
How does Starlink actually help?
Where mobile networks are destroyed or jammed, a Starlink terminal restores a working connection — for coordination, medical evacuation requests and contact with families. It is one of the most direct forms of practical support a small campaign can deliver.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. LUkraine asbl is a registered non-profit in Luxembourg and donations are tax deductible. Write to contact@lukraine.org with your donation details and we will issue your certificate.
Can I help in another way?
Yes — we always need volunteers on the day, and sharing the campaign with your network genuinely moves the number. Write to contact@lukraine.org and tell us what you would like to do.

Independence is not just a memory. It is an action.
